El-Amin is probably the most popular basketball last name in the city of Minneapolis. Khalid El-Amin is easily one of the most respected athletes to come out of North Minneapolis. From 1995-1997, he led the Minneapolis North Polar's to three consecutive state championships teams. He was also a McDonald's All-American, three-time Minnesota State Player of the Year and 1997 Minnesota Mr. Basketball. Following his prep career he went on to play divivion 1 basketball for UCONN and led them to the 1999 NCAA Championship game thriller over Duke. El-Amin was drafted by the Chicago Bulls and played for them for 1 season, then went on to play overseas professionally for 12 seasons. Khalid has a son that plays the same position he did but stands a little bit taller at 6'3. Ishmael El-Amin is "The Next El-Amin" to make a footprint in Minneapolis but he made his own name at national basketball powerhouse, Hopkins High School (Minnetonka, MN). While starting for the Hopkins Royals, Ishmael led them to a 31-1 state championship season alongside 6'8 shooting guard and current Minnesota Golden-Gopher super sophomore Amir Coffey. During El-Amin's senior season the royals struggled with a disappointing 2 and 6 record. During his HS career he had six division 1 offers from schools like Texas Tech, Ball State, DePaul, Tennessee State, Nevada and Denver. Ultimately, he chose to continue his career at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He sparked interest from UCONN just like his father but wanted to write his own story while continuing the tradition of the last name El-Amin. Be on the look out for #5 as he is expected to make noise in the Mid American Conference and nationally.
